We do research and development of assays, to create new tests to fill in gaps in the health diagnostics market. This includes study planning and execution, sample processing, DNA/RNA extractions, and PCR set-up and analysis. The final result is an improved workflow or test to diagnose disease earlier or provide information about the type of treatment a person should receive, also known as personalised medicine.

My Typical Day:
I wake up when my cat gets hungry and sort myself out before heading into work. There I start by checking any outstanding emails and get on with the days tasks. Sometimes I’m in the lab and sometimes in the office sorting out results!

6am – wake up
7am – leave for work
7:30am – sort emails, paperwork etc. at my desk.
8:30am – plan studies, sort results from the day before, make worksheets for lab work
12:15pm – lunch!
12:45pm – back to work
3:30pm – head home
4pm – go for a walk
4:30pm – relax, TV or reading
5:30pm – cook and eat dinner
7pm – shower
7:30pm – relax until bed-time!
