I think that different people will have very different answers to this question. In my case, I always find that the easiest things I do are the ones that I enjoy the most, because they don’t feel like work. So, what’s the thing I enjoy the most in science? Specifically for my job, it would be to use my computer to solve maths problems using code. It’s a fun mix of problem solving, creative thinking, but also biology because I’m using the maths to answer real biology questions!
Based on my experience, the easiest thing to do is to design an experiment that doesn’t work – I seemed to be very good at that :-)!!
I’ve been a scientist for quite a long time (20 years) so my job is now more about having ideas and designing experiments for others to do. my group will tell you this is MUCH easier than actually doing the experiments – so I guess that’s probably the answer for me!
I agree with Quentin here! It’s always a bit easier to do the things that you enjoy. So for my job, I really enjoy teaching the students while having a bit of banter. This makes the process far easier and hopefully puts them at ease, so they can relax a little and take in the important information a bit better!
