It’s fun being a scientist – I enjoy working with like-minded people for a common cause, but also each having our own specialism so that we can each bring our own set of skills to the table!

Mostly it’s great – always plenty of Qs to answer and it’s fun thinking of new ideas and experiments. Always great working with other scientists to share ideas and expertise. It can also be frustrating sometimes when things don’t work or go to plan. I guess in some ways it’s no different to lots of other jobs!

There is a lot of time spent sitting in front of a computer (especially at the moment) but there’s also a lot of time doing experiments and meeting other scientists. I would say, no balance, there is more fun than boring stuff 🙂

Rewarding. I really like that what I study can have an impact on how we understand how use language. It can be scary sometimes because it can feel like going into the great unknown, but that is also what makes it so exciting

Being a scientist is COOL; but it sometimes I do doubt myself whether it is a right path for me. But I think it is pretty normal, everyone have good days and bad days, but when I was upset or in doubt, i would talk to someone who I trust to make me feel better.

Being a scientist can be fun and exciting, but sometimes also a bit stressful. There are times that a bit less exciting, or when things don’t work as well as you expected. But there are also very good times when you get interesting results, or get to push your research further than you hoped because your hard work paid off. These times make everything worth it in the end!

It’s pretty cool! I really really like my job and feel quite lucky to work in the area I do! Most of my work involves teaching others how to use the equipment in the lab, so that they have the practical skills to have a career in science as well.

It’s pretty fun for most of the time. The work you do changes quite a bit day-to-day so it doesn’t get boring. You’re always learning new things and overcoming challenges (hopefully). Though eventually you have to do lots of writing and reporting, which is a bit tedious, but quite satisfying when it’s published for the world to see.
