I’m most proud of being accepted into my PhD program. I had tried to apply for PhDs earlier in my twenties, but I wasn’t successful. Since then, I had learnt a lot and grown my skills and knowledge enough to be accepted onto a project I was really passionate about. So getting onto the PhD represented how far I had come over the past few years!

From my work life, I’m probably most proud of all the other younger scientists that I’ve helped and trained, who have gone on to be fab scientists in their own labs and groups. It’s really great to stay in touch and still work with them and watch them grow in their own fields.

At work – I love that I get to work with great people and be part of their team.

I would have to say when I got my name on a proper scientific paper. I was working as an assistant in a lab and got some interesting results that were actually good enough to share with the scientific community.

I think what I am the most proud of is how I now get to be scientist and work with complex methods and equipments, while I used to be terrible at science back at school!

I avoided science subjects for my A-levels because I was struggling a lot with these and was much better at humanities and languages. But once I got to university to study Archaeology, I realised how useful biology, chemistry and physics could be to study the past, and then did everything I could to catch up on my science knowledge. It was hard work, but it paid off! 🙂

I am most proud of :

to show other (especially my mum and dad) that being a mathematician does not mean I can only be accountants/ teachers. But I can also work in data science area too.

I use maths/data to help NHS understanding Patients’ Pathway (and to improve their service). That is something I didnt expect to do.

I mentor students, and honestly my biggest fulfilment is when they get the jobs they are looking for. It gives you such a warm and fuzzy feeling to see people succeed and know you had a small part in it.

Getting into a PhD program – it look a long time and lots of hard work, so I’m really proud that I did it. Plus it proved that it didn’t matter that I got average grades at A level and didn’t go to a ‘posh’ university, I still got into a really competitive program 🙂
