I started my PhD almost 4 years ago when I was 25, so I’ve been a scientist ‘officially’ for that long. Before that I worked for a scientific publisher and a dementia charity, so I’ve done science-related work since I was 22, but this is the only lab job I’ve had.
Like Rebecca, I’d say I really started to work as a scientist when I started my PhD 5 years ago (I just finished less than a year ago and work now in a lab). I was 28. Before that I had quite a lot of jobs, all related to my field (archaeology) after I graduated with my master’s degree at 24.
